Aromatics: Palo Santo and Agua de Florida

Aromatics have been used for generations as a bridge between everyday life and ritual. Palo Santo and Agua de Florida are two well-known examples. They appear in ceremony, meditation and personal practice, and people value them for their fragrance and for the calm, intentional atmosphere they create.

Whether you are building a daily routine or just beginning, this category offers a small selection of ritual aromatics. Each product page describes the item, its size and how it is traditionally used.

The role of aromatics in ritual practice

In many traditions a fragrance marks the start of a ritual. It signals a pause and helps you turn your attention inward. Aromatics are used in several ways:

  • Smoke and scent to prepare a ritual space
  • Traditional spiritual cleansing of rooms, tools and people
  • A calm backdrop for meditation
  • Fragrance that accompanies ceremonies rooted in ancestral practice

Preparing the ritual space

Sacred aroma products are traditionally used to prepare and cleanse a ritual space and the tools used in it, in a spiritual sense. Palo Santo is often lit before a rapé ceremony for this reason.

Palo Santo: the “holy wood”

Palo Santo means “holy wood” in Spanish. Our sticks come in a pack of 4 and are made from naturally fallen Palo Santo wood, with no additives. You light the tip, let it burn briefly and blow out the flame, so that the fragrant smoke keeps rising.

The scent is rich and woody. Palo Santo is traditionally used to prepare a room, tools or people before a ceremony, before an event or when arriving in a new place such as a hotel or apartment.

Agua de Florida: a traditional fragrant water

Agua de Florida is a citrus-herbal cologne that has been used in spiritual and ritual practice in Peru for generations. Our bottle holds 270 ml of Murray & Lanman Agua de Florida, made in Arequipa, Peru.

It is traditionally placed on the hands or sprayed in cleansing rituals, ceremony and meditation, and many people simply enjoy it as a refreshing fragrance. A few drops on the palms are enough to start with. Agua de Florida is for personal and ritual use. It is not used to clean tepi or kuripe.

Choosing aromatics for your practice

Think about how you want to use the product. A Palo Santo stick suits a quick, simple moment. Agua de Florida suits people who like a fresh, citrus-herbal fragrance. Both can be used by beginners and by experienced practitioners.

Read the product page for the exact size and details, and combine aromatics with other items from our shop, such as rapé, tepi and kuripe or ceremonial ornaments, to build a coherent ritual space.
